Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection. Many cases are asymptomatic. Undiagnosed cases may lead to infertility.
Most people who have the Chlamydia infection are not aware of it. Approximately 75% of women who are infected with Chlamydia are asymptomatic. And, approximately 50% of infected men are asymptomatic.
Symptoms of Chlamydia usually occur 1-3 weeks after exposure.
Symptoms are similar to Gonorrhea.
Chlamydia infection can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in females with risk of fatal outcome or infertility. In men, it can cause epididymitis which may result in infertility.
Chlamydia can easily be treated and cured by a course of antibiotics.
